Fireworks Safety
There are few things more spectacular than giant fireworks lighting up the sky on the fourth of July or other holidays. Home use of fireworks can also be thrilling and enormous amounts of fun, but unfortunately every year there are way too many burns, eye injuries, and lost limbs because people did not follow simple steps that insure fireworks safety.
Fireworks are not legal in many areas and it is important that you learn if they are legal where you live. Fireworks safety starts with some basic common sense and requires that you take the following guidelines seriously. Most importantly, it is vital that kids never play with fireworks. Even relatively harmless things like firecrackers and sparklers can cause sever damage. If you do let a child play with fireworks, be sure it is done outside and properly instruct kids to keep fireworks like sparklers away from their face, hair, and clothes.
Buy only legal fireworks and make sure they are properly handled and stored in a cool safe place. Despite being banned over 40 years ago, illegal fireworks still are the cause for many of the most serious injuries and mishaps. Many people try to make their own fireworks and this often leads to a great number of problems and disasters and is a bad idea when considering fireworks safety. Always use fireworks outside and have a hose or large bucket of water available just in case something unexpected happens. Never hold fireworks in your hand or keep unused fireworks in pockets as friction could set them off. Also wear protective eye gear and take all firework safety seriously. You want your holiday to be a blast, but keep it enjoyable by knowing that your family is safe.
